STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM

Leadership is about the art of motivating, influencing, and directing people so that they work together to achieve the goals of a team or broader organisation. It is important for students to experience leadership opportunities during their schooling, to learn the art of building relationships within teams, defining identities and achieving tasks effectively. It also provides an opportunity to learn to identify and display effective communication and interpersonal skills. Leadership in its simplest form is taking the responsibility for making a positive difference in our own and other people’s lives. Our assumption at Narembeen DHS is that everyone can and should exhibit quality leadership. We also accept that everyone will lead in varying degrees of effectiveness, and we value each student’s contribution to our community.

WHAT QUALITIES ARE NEEDED BY OUR LEADERS?

  • Display a passionate belief in the school values and vision.

  • Good leadership skills.

  • An excellent mentor and role model

  • Have excellent attendance, punctuality and behaviour.

  • High levels of honesty, responsibility and endeavour.

  • A commitment to serving other people.

  • A willingness and be able to give up time to contribute to the school.

  • Be approachable, reliable and have good listening skills

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Demonstrate a caring and supportive manner.

AT NAREMBEEN DHS STUDENTS ON OUR LEADERSHIP GROUP ARE EXPECTED TO:

  • uphold the values of Narembeen DHS.

  • show initiative.

  • be well organised.

  • demonstrate respect and responsibility.

  • have strength of character, work always within school rules, and display strong self-respect.

  • welcome and foster support from other students, while giving back in a mentoring role whenever possible.

  • inspire others by example.

  • speak on behalf of students at school functions and other special events.

Some leadership roles have greater levels of responsibility than others, but all students are expected to lead their community to the best of their ability.

EFFICIENCY … RESPONSIBILITY … RESPECTFUL … ORGANISED … LEADERSHIP

NAREMBEEN DHS CAPTAIN

The role of the school Captain is to lead the student body and to represent the school community to the best of his/her ability. It is an honour to be named Narembeen DHS Captain and to work with other student leaders and staff to positively influence overall life within the school. An Office of Service to the school community, the School Captain has the most responsibility out of any student leadership position.

NAREMBEEN DHS VICE-CAPTAIN

The School Vice-Captain is tasked with assisting the school Captain in leading the student body and representing the school community.

STUDENT COUNCILLORS

The students elected to the Student Leadership Team as Student Councillors are to:

  • provide excellent leadership.

  • encourage, and mentor our students, when necessary, to have the highest levels of punctuality, complete homework regularly, behave well in all lessons, respect the school and its surrounds and achieve at their best socially, academically and on the sports field.

  • support the school in the delivery of school events such as assemblies, Anzac Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies, Positive Rewards activities, after school training and Open Nights.

  • supervise small groups of students at certain events (eg: Positive Rewards Day) when required.

  • represent the school at community events when appropriate (eg: at community Anzac Day service, CRC events).

  • attend all student leadership meetings with the Captain and Vice-Captain and liaise successfully between the student body and staff to ensure the voice of the students is heard.
