Learning Areas
Providing your child with everything they need for a great Education.
ENGLISH
Our English Language and Literacy programmes from Kindergarten to Year 10, begins with the explicit instruction of a systematics synthetic phonics programme. We are well resourced with decodable home reading materials, that promote early reading skills, and our library offers a range of current books for our older students. Early intervention for struggling readers is offered through Minilit and Macqlit groups. Data from regular standardised assessments drive the teaching and planning for all stages of learning.

MATH
We provide children with a unique opportunity to grow and expand their mathematical knowledge through a variety of engaging programs. In the primary phase, we make use of the Prime Math series to ensure students develop a solid foundation in fundamental mathematical concepts such as number sense, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. In the senior phase, we use Pearson resources to help students build on these and develop at a higher standard, focusing on more complex topics like algebra, geometry, and data analysis. To supplement these programs, we also incorporate platforms like IXL and Targeting Math, which reinforce key concepts and offer personalised practice. Our carefully designed courses cater to different learning styles, ensuring that each child can progress at their own pace. By offering a wide range of activities, we equip children with essential skills and confident to excel in Mathematics. Whether through interactive lessons, problem-solving challenges, or personalised support, our goal is to create a strong foundation for lifelong learning. We are committed to helping children unlock their full potential and develop a love for learning mathematics.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Narembeen District High School is extremely passionate about sport and this is reflected in the Physical Education curriculum. We set high expectations for all students to put one hundred percent into all their endeavours, and in doing so the school has accomplished many successes which is well known by our community and surrounding schools. We have a specialist Physical Education teacher who ensures that the Physical Education curriculum is of current best practise. We also have a strong fitness program in both the primary and the high school that not only ensures that the students are meeting their two hours of recommended physical activity per week, but also strengthens what they are focusing on in Physical Education. Values such as sportsmanship and resilience are instilled into the students, and they are taught roles that extend to their community sport, encouraging them to take on these roles within their sporting clubs in the future.

DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY
Design and Technology is taught in high school at Narembeen DHS in a purpose-built workshop. Students in Years 7 and 8 study Woodwork in semester one, and Metalwork in semester two. They learn the basic skills required to fabricate small projects using a variety of materials and processes. There are opportunities for students to personalise their projects as there is a design component in many of them.
Design and Technology subjects are offered to students in Years 9 and 10 as electives. Each elective runs for 2 hours a week for a semester. Subjects offered include Design and Manufacturing using Wood and Metal, Modelmaking, Plastics and Electronics, Home Workshop, and Photography. Subjects are offset against Home Economics and Physical Education electives.
SCIENCE
At Narembeen DHS, Year 7 – 10 Science is taught at a high level, with the curriculum fully covered as well as extension units in Physics and Chemistry. It is our aim to ensure that our students’ complete units of work that will enable them to choose any course in Year 11 and succeed. I am a fully qualified science teacher, with a Physics/Chemistry major with over 40 years of experience in the classroom. Academic rigour is my goal and high expectations of students is maintained in my classes.

MUSIC
At Narembeen DHS, students engage in music studies from Kindergarten to Year 6. The main aim of the program is for each child to experience and enjoy as many different types of active music making as possible. Our specialist music program offers learning experiences that develop performance, theory and music analysis skills. Students enjoy a varied program, with singing and movement being a focus for the younger years, whilst instrumental studies, including recorder and ukulele, are introduced from Year 3 onwards. Narembeen DHS boasts a vibrant school choir for Years 3-7. Formed in 2024, the Narembeen School Choir is an extra-curricular group that most recently performed at the RAC Arena in the ‘One Big Voice’ festival in Perth.
LOTE
In LOTE, our students from Year 3-8, learn the basics of Auslan (Australian Sign Language), as a well as issues around deaf awareness, inclusive communities, and a range of other communication issues. We use a teaching system designed and supported by a deaf teacher, who provides filmed examples, resources, and all teaching materials required to instil the initial building blocks of a second language. This link to a member of the Deaf community is fundamental to the success of our programme.
